Seagulls love Looe and what’s not to love: pasties, fish and chips and ice creams everywhere you turn.
Looe’s seagulls are always hungry and can be a nuisance and even a risk as they will try and snatch food away from you.
The golden rule is do not feed the seagulls. Feeding them encourages them to chase after human food and our yummy picnics and snacks can affect their health.
Here are our top tips for keeping you and the gulls safe:
Never feed seagulls (did you know throwing food is classed as littering?)
Keep away from nests and young gulls as seagulls are very protective of their young
Never leave your food unattended, keep your food close to you
Keep your children close to you when they are eating and ask them not to wave any food about
Gulls will swoop down to steal food so be extra careful when eating outdoors
Gulls will approach you from behind so try and have your picnic against a wall or pile your bags behind you on the beach
Put any unwanted food in the bin
Explain these tips to your children
